About zAdmin
12-17-01 - UPDATE: We are now taking applications for zAdmin. Read FSB-AO's post about how to get access to our servers here. Make sure that you FOLLOW these rules, or you will not get zAdmin. To be honest we are tired of it, and even more so of the people who bug the everlasting crap out of us for it. Put in your request and just be patient.
10-30-01 - UPDATE: WE HAVE STOPPED TAKING IN PEOPLE FOR ZADMIN. We will eventually start adding people again, but for now we have stopped. DON'T BUG ANY 5150 MEMBERS ABOUT THIS. If you do, you can pretty much guarantee you WILL NOT get into zAdmin. We will update this page when we start taking in people for zAdmin again. We'll also leave the rules up so you can still read how zAdmin works.
Just a brief explanation of what it is to save people the trouble of asking and save us the trouble of explaining 100 times a day.
Currently, the script activates once there are 20 people on the server. There are 2 parts to it. The first is a general password script. It passwords the server based on capacity. From 0-20 people, there is no password (this can be changed by the server admin, however). Once the server reaches 20 people, a password is applied and the second part of the script kicks in. This part checks for a match with either the joining players individual ID, or for the ID of an approved team in the WON info. A match means the player is permitted to join the server. No match equals a kick with a ban applied (to prevent rejoin flooding). As you can see, having the password does not get you in the door. It is a fact of life that passwords will be leaked, and we don't have the patience or time to change the password frequently, nor do we enjoy trying to figure out who told who what.
How do you get added to this list? Fairly simple. First of all, we only want skilled players. There are plenty of servers for players to learn how to play without being a threat to their teammates. 5150 servers are not among those. If you are requesting access for your team or for yourself as an individual, its the same basic procedure. Ask a 5150 member (tmail or email usually works) if they would assist you. Unfortunately we have to be selective. If we don't know you, we will say no. Its a lot easier to add people than remove them, and we'd rather not add someone who we'll wind up removing a few days later.
To clear up any misinformation, sLaM is the ONLY person capable of adding people to the zAdmin list. This does not mean you should bug the shit out of him. He runs the servers in addition to real life. He doesn't sit at his pc all day refreshing his inbox for zAdmin related mail. If he doesn't respond right away, its due to a) the sheer number of requests he gets b) his real life schedule or c) responding to someone he doesn't know with "No." will elicit a tearful plea in response. As a side note, sLaM also maintains another list. That list contains permanent ban info. If you bother him often, you'll probably wind up on that one instead.
Just incase you are wondering (it HAS happened, really), the script we run on our servers is property of Team 5150 and WiredRed. It is currently not available to the public, although we may (depending on how lazy I am and how Red and sLaM feel about it) cut out all the other stuff and release the passwording portion of the script for general use.
